Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a completed animation?

We like to think of every 1 minute of animation equal to 1 month of work, but it can differ depending on what the animation is, how detailed it is, and what style you want

What is the difference between Puppet animation and Hand-drawn animation?

Puppet animation is where we create a digital rig of a character and move around the parts of the rig to create an animation. (Sort of like creating a jointed paper puppet, but for animation) This allows us to only have to draw and rig the characters a few handful of times. This is the fastest and most cost effective way to do animation. This is great if you want an animation with a character only facing one or two ways. (This style is great for: childrens animation, storytime animation, short cartoon, animation accompanying an informative video)

Hand-drawn animation is where we animate every “frame” of an animation, usually, it takes 15 frames to make 1 second of animation. This style of animation is very time consuming, but it allows for much more detailed animation, visually stunning art syles and expressive movements. If you want an animation to express your creativity, hand drawn is the way to go! (This style is great for: heavily art style focused animation, animated fight scene, aesthetic focused music video, detailed visually stunning animation)

If you’re unsure of what animation to use, we can help you decide whats best for your project.

Why does animation take so long to complete?

Have you ever drawn a picture you think looks very pretty? How long did it take you? Great! Now imagine drawing that same picture with minor position adjustments 800+ times! And thats only for 1 minute of sketchy, no colour and no background animation!

Why is animation so expensive?

The three main factors as to why it’s expensive:

1: Animation is very time consuming, on an average day we work for about 8 hours and can get about 5 seconds of animation done. Not to mention the time we take to do other things such as designing characters, painting backgrounds, storyboarding, etc.

2: Animations require alot of people! Being a team of 3, we are able to charge a lower cost than other studios, but it does mean the hours we spend on it are more than a large animation studio

3: The length and complexity of your animation, we make sure that the work we produce is top quality, putting love into every frame.

Please take this into consideration when receiving a quote, and we’re always happy to discuss a project based on your budget!

Can I see my animation in the works?

As we want you to be excited for your animation, we will always send you updates and screenshots/work in progress shots of your animation when you want them.

What is the process of making my animation?

Not all animation processes are the same, but they generally work like this:

Step 1: Fill out the form in the “Get a quote!” tab, or send us as email at beakbrush.work@gmail.com

Step 2: Once we send you your quote, we can then go into discussing the project. This process is easiest when we can video call you to have you discuss everything you want in your animation.

Step 3: When we have all the details of your project, we will send you a 1st draft “animatic”. An animatic is rough drawings showing you the animation will look like. It’s here where you can make changes to the first animatic, you can make as many changes as you like to the first draft. (Any drafts from here will usually cost extra)

Step 4: If you’re happy with your animatic, we will start production on your animation!

Step 5: After a period of time, your animation will be completed!

Step 6: Enjoy your animation!

How does payment work?

We offer 2 methods of payment (for larger projects we can discuss customised payment methods) (BOTH PAYMENTS REQUIRE A 25% NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF THE TOTAL PROJECT PRICE):

1: Pay as we go: Pay in 4 instalments

2: Half-Half: Pay the first half upfront, pay the last half when the animation is completed

What do I need to provide for my animation?

A short description of your animation is ok, but we cannot guarantee that it will look exactly as you want. The more information you can give us on your animation, the more accurate your animation will be to your visions. Providing these things help us make the animation more accurately to what you want:

  • Drawings or sketches of your characters (If you don’t have character designs, we can provide character design at an additional cost. In this case, images/mood boards of the character will be needed instead)

  • Voice clips of your characters voice

  • Images of what you want your animation to look like

  • Detailed descriptions of your characters and their environments

  • Colour pallets

  • Other media that inspired you to want this animation

Do you do sfx/music/voice acting for the animation?

We are in contact with some talented voice actors, foley artists and musicians. Our quote will include the extra costs if you require them. You can also provide your own audio if you have any.

Why should I get an animation studio to do my project and not an AI program?

We are aware of the rise of AI programs and the technology used to create AI generated art. Although impressive, AI cannot create art or animation that is personalised to you. Furthermore, AI is trained using works from other artists, and by extension, the AI is stealing art and then giving it to you. By commissioning us to do an animation for you, you are receiving a piece of art tailored directly for you. You will also be supporting the animation industry by rewarding the efforts of animators who have spent years mastering their craft.

What can I do with my animation once I receive it?

With most projects, we will send you a 1920 x 1080, 24 FPS mp4 video file of your animation. You can do whatever you want with it, although we do ask if you post it online that you have our studios name or names of our workers in the description or credits of the video so our efforts don’t go unnoticed.

Are you looking to hire more animators?

We have big plans to make many more fun animations in the future, however, these projects are time consuming, expensive and are fully funded through our odd animation commissions, ad revenue, donations and our love of the craft. Although we would love to expand the team in the future, we currently aren't able to afford any extra help. If you'd like to help us reach this goal and get more content out in the future, please consider donating to us on our Patreon or by sharing our videos and spreading word of our work!
